Six policemen to guard retired DIG

The Mount Lavinia Police have deployed six police personnel to guard retired DIG Ashoka Wijetilleke, a member of the Police Commission, according to police sources.

A senior DIG confirmed to MediaLK that it is not allowed by law to deploy police for the protection of retired DIGs. He added that the police are deployed to protect a person only after a proper assessment of his security.

The deployment of police officers for the security of Ashoka Wijetilleke has not been properly assessed and the necessary permission has not been acquired, the police sources said.

When MediaLK inquired about this from the Mount Lavinia OIC, he said that he could provide answers if requested in writing. MediaLK forwarded a request yesterday (15) for information under the Right to Information Act to the Superintendent of Police in charge of Mount Lavinia.
