Two journalists covering an illegal teak felling racket in Muruppu in Mullaitivu have been assaulted by the timber smugglers.
The incident took place at around 3.00pm today (12) and a complaint was lodged at the Mullaitivu Police.
The journalists, attached to icbtamil.com, were assaulted and detained by the loggers. Photos and videos recorded in their mobiles and cameras have been deleted by the mob too.
When inquired about this, acting police media spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said that a complaint has been received regarding this and one suspect has already been arrested.
He said that, in the complaint, it is mentioned that four people have carried out this assault on the journalists and further investigations are being carried out.
