The President has the sole responsibility regarding to the national security, while Secretary to the Ministry of Defence has the accountability to it, Retired Major General and former Chief of National Intelligence (CNI) informed the PCoI probing Easter Sunday attacks yesterday.
Hendawitharana said that the government's preperations to analize the impacts of foreign agreements such as Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on national security, commenced soon after ending the country's civil war.
Highlighting the importance of reviewing important things pertaining to the national security constantly, Hendavitharana said that even after the war then government had threat review meetings with the security council.
" After ending the war against LTTE then government focused on drug trafficking, human smuggling, extremism and cyber crimes," witness informed the commission.
He said that a special unit was also established to monitor religious extremism in the country after ending the war and officers attached to CNI received special foreign trainings.
Hendawitharana said that the government had received details over 100 preachers who came to the country within period of 2009-2015 to preach extremism and the government took measures to deport them back.
