30 navy personnel at Welisara Navy Camp have been tested positive for Coronavirus, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said.

Several members of the Welisara Navy base have been directed to the PCR test today (23).

Some of them had undergone a second PCR test due to suspicious symptoms.

This came after it was revealed that two personnel who went on leave had been infected with the virus.

Tests carried out today have confirmed that 28 people have contracted the coronavirus.

The previously confirmed two personnel are residents of Pulasthigama and Wariyapola.

The Army Commander suspects that they had contracted the virus from a navy personnel who had gone to quarantine duty in Suduwelle area.

He said that all the camps in Welisara are being quarantined.

The Army Commander said that those who are on leave from the camp at the time would be called back and quarantined.
