A part of the residential area, where the person died of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in Maradana has been closed (01), police said.

The police said that people in the area have been informed to self quarantine.

Under the Quarantine Ordinance, the competent authority has the authority to make a decision on a particular infected area.

Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi gazetted the definition of 'competent authority' on the 25th.

Accordingly, in addition to the Director General of Health Services which is the competent authority for the whole country, powers have been vested to Pradeshiya Sabhas.
