The Epidemiology Unit has identified 2024 people as close contacts with 102 patients who were initially diagnosed as novel coronavirus patients.
So far, the vast majority of them have been referred to quarantine.
A large number of people suspected of having close ties with those 2024 have also been sent to quarantine.
Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi addressing a program on National Rupavahini yesterday stated that nearly 20,000 people have been sent to quarantine so far.
Of the first 102 cases, the highest number of contacts was for the 27 patient.He has visited India and Singapore and has closely associated with 262 people in Sri Lanka. It has not been reported that any of these people have been infected with the virus.
There are 184 contacts with the patient 66,according to the authorities.He had been associating with patient 51 also, but its not clear how those two got infected with the virus and it is yet to be confirmed.But their associates have not contracted with the virus so far.
Authorities confirmed that there were 169 contacts for the patient number 87.
Although the authorities suspects that the 87th patient have been infected after exposure to an infected person, none of his associates have been infected yet.
