President Maithripala Sirisena has informed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he would like to appoint Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka in a ministerial portfolio, political sources said.
It is reported that the President has sent this message through one of his representatives.
The Prime Minister has told the envoy that no one should know that such a message was brought.
According to sources, the President is likely to be given the ministerial post to prevent Sarath Fonseka from cross-examining at the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) that is conducting the Easter attack.
The Prime Minister has told the messenger that Fonseka should not be aware that the message was brought.
Meanwhile, the President has stated that he will never go to the Parliamentary Select Committee.
