7.2 Earthquake hits Indonesia-Banda Sea

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake shook the Banda Sea, north of Australia today (24).

The city of Darwin in Australia have been evacuated after the quake. The Bureau of Meteorology issued an alert just after 1pm saying there was no tsunami threat to Australia following the earthquake.

The quake is said to have occurred about 700 kilometers north of Darwin and at a depth of about 200 kilometres below the sea.
